The Look of a Smart Grill
The Origin-940 is Brisk Its second grill.
It joins the smallerOrigin-580 model, primarily adding more cooking space without changing the formula too much.
In fact, using the Origin-940 felt a lot like using the Origin-580.
It was noticeably bigger while loading it with meat, but the unit didnt overly consume my suburban backyard.
Those werent make-or-break omissions from the smaller model but were very nice to have in this new unit.
Like the Origin-580, all the grills controls are on the color non-touch screen.
I may be tech-minded, but I thought the on-grill controls were all very straightforward and simple to use.
The shelf underneath wouldnt really be suitable for food.
Its made for storing things like bins of pellets.
The hidden ash and grease collection in the pull-out tray underneath worked well enough.

But overall, its a tidier solution than hanging a bucket off the side.
Broadly speaking, all smokers are heavy and unwieldy to set up.
This one, with a shipping weight of around 140 pounds, was no exception.

Connecting the legs does require two able bodies.
Its not the most polished, but its also an outdoor grill.
I didn’t mind its simple look and configuration.

From shorter commitments like burgers and steaks to longer smoking sessions for pulled pork and brisket.
I think burgers have a little better taste, too.
One evening, I threw on a couple of 1-inch-thick steaks on the Origin-940 for dinner.

I smoked them at 225 degrees for about an hour and then seared them for a couple of minutes.
They tasted near perfect.
To test a longer cook, I used a 5lb pork butt.

This took around nine hours to smoke and another hour to rest.
The meat pulled away beautifully and was nice and juicy.
Next time, I’ll likely adjust the spices I used, but that part was on me.

I didnt run into any connection interruptions or technical issues.
The lack of a pellet monitor inside the hopper really glared its head during a long-cook situation.
Especially for new wood pellet barbequers, knowing how much fuel is left in the hopper is a must-have.

All around, I was extremely impressed with the results of the Brisk It Origin-940.
Im no grill master, but I had no problem operating the smoker to cook different types of meat.
If you do want some hand-holding, Innogrill is Brisk Its automated cook process.
Tyler Hayes / How-To Geek
Its a pre-programmed recipe for different foods that can be selected from the app and sent to the grill.
That made using the automated process less appealing or useful.
Having the pre-made recipes baked into the app did at least provide a starting place.
Tyler Hayes / How-To Geek
Its certainly more helpful for novice chefs rather than having nothing.
Add Wi-Fi to Every Appliance
It’s not just the Brisk It grills that have added Wi-Fi.
Plenty of cooking appliances are adding wireless connectivity to assist in smart cooking.
Being alerted when the food needs attention is too convenient not to have on all kinds of devices.
Brisk It is less subtle about its wireless connection than Traeger, but it seemed subjectively more reliable.
In this case, more stability is a better substitute.
It handled the tasks I asked of it.
Setting a timer was one example of the apps lackluster feel and function.
It was a minor thing, but one that gave me pause more than once.
It was a concerning message that was either wrong or unclear and confusing.
Origin-940 Price and Availability
The Brisk It Origin-940 is available for purchase and retails for $1,399.99.
It launched with a promotional price of $1,099.99.
Should You Buy the Brisk It Origin-940?
I have been pleasantly surprised by both Brisk It grills.
First, by the Origin-580, and now by the more sizeableOrigin-940.
This is a heavy product, not easy to return, so I dont make this recommendation lightly.
The Brisk It Origin-940 is a great first smart (connected) grill.
