Here’s one feature that parents definitely shouldn’t pass up.

What is Communication Safety?

It uses on-equipment machine learning to detect photos that may contain nudity.

Checking grammar and spelling in the iPhone’s Notes app using the Grammarly keyboard.

Underneath the photo, a message will be displayed offering ways to get help.

If the user attempts to view the photo, they will be prompted by a screen of options.

This screen offers two options, as well as supportive messages.

Before displaying the photo, a second warning screen appears.

Choosing this option automatically populates a message to whoever is set as the equipment’semergency contact.

What About Sending Sensitive Photos?

Communication Safety works similarly if it detects a user trying to send a photo that may be sensitive.

It displays similar screens, but with slightly different options.

This one allows the user to cancel, message a grown-up, or continue.

If “Continue” is chosen, the photo is sent.

To do so, navigate to controls > Screen Time.

Tap on the option labeled “Communication Safety”.

From that menu, you could access Communication Safety tweaks on your unit or a child’s unit.

The toggle next to “Check for Sensitive Photos” turns this feature on or off.
