It sounds easy, but it isn’tConnections categories can be almost anything, and they’re usually quite specific.
If you need a hand getting the answers, we’ve got you covered.
What Is Connections?
Connections is a game from the New York Times.
The objective is simple: sort 16 words into groups of 4.
Each group of words will be connected by some common idea or theme.
That common element could be anything.
Sometimes they’re references to economics, other times they reference fairy tales.
There is no telling what sort of association there will be between words.
Once you’re confident you understand the connection, select 4 words, then hit “Submit.”
You have only four attempts in total, so don’t be too guess-happy.
May 27th came pretty easily.
Voice and say are often synonyms (when verbs).
I tried guessing speak with vote, but found one word was off.
Then I realized that the category isn’t about actual speaking.
Speak was a red herring in Yellow, so I started with that next.
Down, heel, shake, and speak were in the Green group.
Flat, natural, quarter, and whole are music terms, so they’re probably a group.
Blue was “Kinds of Notes.”
That left pump, steam, tire, and waffle.
They must belong to the Purple group, and very often that involves a missing or added word.
I started adding words at the ends of them pretty randomly until I landed on “Iron.”
Purple was “_____ Iron.”
How Do You Guess Connections Groups?
